Dorchester School District 4 is thrilled to continue the "Everyday Hero" employee recognition program, designed to celebrate the often-unsung heroes whose contributions are essential to the success of our schools. These individuals work tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that our schools function smoothly and remain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors alike.
The first "Everyday Hero" for September is Ms. Eleanor Washington, a dedicated custodian at Williams Memorial Elementary School. Custodians like Ms. Washington are the backbone of any school, taking on the vital responsibility of maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Without their hard work, the day-to-day operations of a school would be severely impacted. From early morning until late in the day, custodians ensure that classrooms, hallways, and common areas are spotless and safe, contributing to a positive and productive learning atmosphere.
Custodians perform a myriad of tasks that are often unseen but absolutely critical. They manage everything from waste disposal and sanitization to minor repairs and classroom setups for special events. Their work not only keeps the physical space of the school in top condition but also helps prevent the spread of illnesses, particularly during cold and flu season. A well-maintained school building fosters a sense of pride and respect among students and staff, reinforcing the importance of a clean and organized environment for effective learning.
Ms. Washington's commitment to her role goes above and beyond the call of duty. Principal Ruth Mims of Williams Memorial Elementary School had high praise for Ms. Washington, stating, "Ms. El worked this summer with only a substitute to assist her in cleaning WMES and working with the company that was doing our floors. Ms. El always has a smile on her face, works tirelessly, never complains, and is willing to assist in whatever capacity is needed."
Ms. Washington's dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to step up wherever she is needed exemplify the spirit of the "Everyday Hero" program. Her efforts have ensured that Williams Memorial Elementary School remains a clean and safe environment for all who enter. In recognition of her outstanding service, Ms. Washington will receive a certificate of appreciation and a distinguished coin from the Superintendent at the September DD4 Board Meeting, symbolizing the district’s deep gratitude for her exceptional work.
The "Everyday Hero" program continues to highlight the indispensable roles that individuals like Ms. Washington play in making Dorchester School District 4 a place where students can thrive. We are proud to honor her as our first hero of the month and thank her for her unwavering commitment to excellence. Congratulations Ms. Eleanor Washington.
