It was all about the Woodland Wolverines on Friday night as they secured a commanding victory over the Bethune-Bowman Mohawks at Wolverine Stadium. Despite the steady rain that persisted throughout the game, fans braved the weather to celebrate Greek Night at "The Wood."
The action kicked off early in the first quarter when Woodland quarterback Jervaz'e Sally connected with Tre’Von Walker for a touchdown. Gibson Kepley added the extra point, putting the Wolverines up 7-0. The Mohawks made some progress on their next drive, but George Perry’s crucial stop on third down forced them to punt, setting the tone for the Wolverines' defense.
With 5:16 left in the first quarter, Sally found Trevon Tate for another touchdown, extending Woodland’s lead to 13-0. Shortly after, Aiden Walker came up with a key interception, halting Bethune-Bowman’s next attempt to respond.
Sally continued to dazzle as he executed a flea flicker play, with Trevon Tate launching a long pass to Ja’Keese Sally for yet another touchdown. Kepley's extra point made the score 20-0 as the first quarter ended.
The second quarter started with Sally’s quarterback sneak into the end zone, and Kepley’s reliable leg made it 27-0 with 10:23 left in the half. The Wolverines took control on both sides of the ball, not allowing the Mohawks to make any significant gains.
During halftime, Woodland High School’s Principal, Michael White, invited all fraternities and sororities to the track for recognition, where each group showcased their Greek pride with a few dance moves, adding to the festive atmosphere of Greek Night.
With 1:13 left in the half, Sally again connected with Ja’Keese Sally for another six points. This time, the Wolverines went for a two-point conversion, with Sally finding DJ Blanden to bring the score to 35-0.
The third quarter saw Woodland’s dominance continue. With just 37 seconds remaining in the quarter, Jervaz'e Sally handed off to Dorian Britt, who powered his way into the end zone. Kepley’s consistent kicking made it 42-0.
Bethune-Bowman tried for a last-minute score with just 10 seconds left in the game, but JaMarcus Amaker’s interception sealed the Wolverines’ shutout victory.
The Wolverines will travel this Friday to face Whale Branch as they look to maintain their winning streak. Their next home game will be on September 20th against Bamberg, which will also be Teacher Appreciation Night at Woodland Stadium.
