fb team after winning vs. whale branch

The Woodland High School Wolverines traveled to Whale Branch for their third game of the season, which had to be moved to Thursday night due to impending bad weather. Coming off commanding wins over Colleton County and Bethune-Bowman, the Wolverines were determined to keep their momentum going.

The game started as a defensive battle, with neither team managing to score in the first quarter. However, the Wolverines struck first in the second quarter when quarterback Duece Salley kept the ball on a run, finding the end zone to put Woodland ahead 6-0 with 4:43 left in the half after a missed PAT. Shortly after, with 2:55 remaining in the second quarter, Travon Tate powered his way to another Wolverine touchdown. Woodland successfully converted a 2-point attempt, extending the lead to 14-0.

Whale Branch quickly answered, scoring a touchdown and a PAT to close the gap to 14-7. Just before halftime, the Warriors attempted a field goal as time expired but came up short.

Woodland seized control early in the second half when they intercepted Whale Branch’s first pass of the third quarter. This turnover set up a rushing touchdown by Dorian Britt, and with the PAT good, Woodland increased their lead to 21-7 with 10:58 left in the third quarter. Just over a minute later, Zishawn Majette broke through the Warriors’ defense for the Wolverines’ fourth rushing touchdown, pushing the score to 28-7 with 9:40 remaining in the quarter.

Duece Salley wasn’t done for the night, adding his second rushing touchdown on a keeper with 5:42 left in the third quarter. Kepley’s PAT made it 35-7, but Whale Branch showed some resilience, cutting the lead to 35-13 after a rushing touchdown (PAT no good) with 2:20 left in the third.

Woodland kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter, and Jamin Brown delivered the Wolverines’ sixth rushing touchdown of the game with 3:44 left. With another successful PAT, the final score stood at 42-13, giving the Wolverines a dominant victory.

This win not only extended Woodland’s undefeated season to 3-0 but also marked a milestone for Head Coach Eddie Ford, as it was his 100th career win. The Wolverines will look to keep their winning streak alive when they return home on Friday, September 20th, for Dorchester District 4 Employee Appreciation Night against Bamberg-Ehrhardt.

Congratulations to Coach Ford and the entire Wolverine team on this outstanding achievement!
