Woodland High School Seniors Take Bold Steps Toward Their Future with College Prep Events
Woodland High School seniors recently embraced two essential college preparation events, driven by the guidance and vision of Rania Thompson, Woodland’s Career Specialist, who led efforts to provide students with tools for a successful transition to college. The school’s College Application Day on October 17th, and the Charleston County Consolidated College and University Fair on October 23rd, were pivotal in helping students explore educational pathways and take the first concrete steps toward their goals.
College Application Day at Woodland: A Guided Pathway to Success
On October 17, the Woodland High School library transformed into a comprehensive college counseling center, where students and faculty gathered for a session focused on simplifying the college application process. From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., students received personalized support in completing applications, drafting essays, and organizing essential documents. The day provided many first-time applicants a chance to ask questions, work through challenges, and, with faculty on hand, submit their first application.
Charleston County Consolidated College Fair: Expanding Horizons Through Real-World Connections
Just days later, Woodland seniors joined their peers at the North Charleston Convention Center for the Charleston County Consolidated College and University Fair. Held on October 23rd, this event allowed students to connect face-to-face with admissions representatives from a wide range of institutions, including both local and national colleges, universities, and specialized programs. Utilizing StriveScan technology, students could easily share their information with representatives, streamlining the process.
With Woodland students attending the afternoon session from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., they made the most of the experience, speaking directly with admissions officers, learning about various academic programs, and gathering information on scholarships and financial aid. Photos from the event capture Woodland students moving eagerly from booth to booth, many discovering new possibilities and broadening their post-high school aspirations.
A Unified Vision: Empowering Woodland Students Through Preparation and Opportunity
Together, these events underscore Woodland High School’s commitment to preparing students for success beyond graduation. The dual approach of application support and real-world college exposure empowers seniors with the skills and knowledge necessary for higher education. Thanks to Thompson’s leadership, these events helped Woodland students not only gain confidence but also a sense of control over their futures.
Woodland High School’s commitment to fostering a college-bound culture is clear in these proactive efforts. With meaningful initiatives like College Application Day and enriching experiences at the Consolidated College Fair, Woodland students are dreaming big and taking tangible steps to make those dreams a reality.
