Dorchester School District 4 is thrilled to announce the first "Everyday Hero" for November: Michelle Council, an exceptional teacher at Harleyville Elementary School. The "Everyday Hero" award recognizes two individuals each month during the monthly board meeting, honoring those who go above and beyond to positively impact students and staff, often without formal recognition. Award recipients receive a certificate and commemorative coin from the Superintendent in appreciation of their service.
This month’s recipient, Ms. Council, was nominated by Principal Jeremy Wolfgang, who commended her unwavering dedication to the students and staff. “I am proud to nominate Michelle Council for the Everyday Hero award. Throughout this school year, she has gone above and beyond in numerous ways, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to our students and school community,” he said.
Ms. Council’s contributions this year have been nothing short of extraordinary. When Harleyville Elementary faced a vacancy in physical education, she stepped up to cover the classes, bringing creativity and enthusiasm to ensure that students stayed active and engaged. Despite the challenge, she embraced the role and made it a positive experience for students.
Her dedication didn’t stop there. When another teacher went on maternity leave, Ms. Council also took on the responsibility of Math RTI instruction, ensuring continuity in students' learning and supporting them through this transition.
Ms. Council's willingness to serve extends beyond her teaching duties. She has consistently volunteered to assist with bus duty, exemplifying her commitment to the safety and well-being of Harleyville students. Her reliability and readiness to help wherever needed make her an invaluable member of the school community.
