The sixth-grade students at Woodland Middle School recently had an unforgettable experience, thanks to Chef Cedric Frazier and his engaging program, The Cedric Frazier Experience. Organized by Kacy Britt, the event brought valuable lessons on nutrition, wellness, and success to the young learners.
Chef Cedric Frazier, a Dallas, Texas-based culinary expert, captivated the students with his knowledge of nutrition and the power of color in food. He explained how different colors in food provide unique health benefits: red foods support heart health, orange foods enhance eyesight, green foods strengthen muscles, blue foods boost brain power, and purple foods offer essential antioxidants. He also emphasized the importance of hydration, noting that something as simple as adding lemon to water can aid digestion.
The discussion extended to essential nutrients, including calcium for strong bones and protein for overall health. When students were asked about their favorite protein sources, Chef Frazier shared that salmon is among the highest in protein. He also highlighted the crucial roles of sleep and exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Beyond nutrition, Chef Frazier offered words of wisdom, reminding students that success is not measured by material possessions. "My happiness is not dependent on what people think of me," he shared, encouraging students to pursue their passions and define success on their own terms.
A native of St. George, Chef Frazier also spoke about his journey in the culinary world. His love for cooking began on his family’s farm in the Lowcountry, where he learned the art of hospitality from his mother and grandmothers. He later formalized his passion by studying Food and Beverage Management at Johnson and Wales University and furthered his education in Events Management at George Washington University. Over a career spanning more than 25 years, Chef Frazier has traveled extensively, exploring diverse cuisines and serving a distinguished clientele, including celebrities, Heads of State, Supreme Court Justices, Senators, Government Officials, and Dignitaries. He incorporates Lowcountry techniques and cuisine into his work, which he described as being in high demand. "What we call soul food, they call comfort food," he explained, illustrating the widespread appreciation for Southern culinary traditions. In addition to his culinary expertise, he has also created his own line of cookware and opened Luxuria, a venue in DeSoto, Texas, designed to offer personalized and elegant dining experiences.
Before becoming a well-known chef, Frazier served as the cafeteria manager at Williams Memorial Elementary School. His experience in food service, combined with his passion for cooking, has allowed him to make a lasting impact on the community. Through The Cedric Frazier Experience and his website, Thecfxp.com, he continues to educate and inspire people of all ages about the power of food and healthy living.
The visit left Woodland Middle School’s sixth graders with valuable insights into making nutritious choices and striving for personal fulfillment. Thanks to Chef Cedric Frazier, they learned that food is not just fuel—it’s a tool for a healthier, happier life.
