Dorchester School District Four proudly welcomes Karim Johnson as our new Director of Transportation. With an impressive 29 years of experience in the pupil transportation industry, including 21 years in leadership roles, Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our district.
Johnson has successfully led transportation teams in urban, suburban, and rural school systems throughout the East Coast. In South Carolina, he has held key administrative and leadership positions in pupil transportation across the Lowcountry, Midlands, and Upstate, ensuring safe and efficient student transportation services.
A trailblazer in sustainable transportation, Johnson made history by overseeing the first successful deployment of five battery-electric (EV) school buses in the capital region of New York State. Following this groundbreaking initiative, he collaborated with district stakeholders to secure ballot propositions for charging infrastructure capable of supporting up to 44 electric school buses and successfully acquired two additional EV buses. His leadership in green transportation solutions highlights his commitment to innovation and efficiency.
Johnson’s professional credentials include national and New York State certifications as a director of transportation, as well as a national certification in special needs transportation. His dedication to excellence was recognized at the highest level when he was named School Bus Fleet Magazine’s 2023 Transportation Administrator of the Year for his outstanding achievements at the local, state, and national levels.
